5 Year old with eczema - desperately in need help!

My 5 year old has had pretty severe eczema since he was about one. It has got progressively worse the older he gets. He is currently under a dermatologist who prescribes steroid creams and wet wraps. Initially these helped but they no longer do. I HATE using steroid on him when he is so young. I have tried everything to food allergy tests, a variety of different lotions and potions but nothing seems to help. At the moment i bathe him every other day in extra virgin olive oil and after the bath cover him in shea butter . I apply this at least 4 times a day but his skin flakes off it is so dry. Does anyone has any suggestions??? Anyone know of any foods that trigger/not great for eczema? He doesnt have cows milk and very very very little sugar in his diet. I am so desperate to help him as he is awake every night, throughout the night scratching his skin and it breaks my heart. All suggestions very much welcomed. Thanks in advance

Sorry to hear that.. I was wondering if allergy testing had been carried out for your boy? Maybe that would help to identify the triggers and make the routine that you're helping him with more effective. The other possibility is to look into ways to reduce staph bacteria - such as weekly chlorhexidine gluconate wash or bleach bath which would help to kill staph bacteria. The staph bacteria is pro-inflammatory and also reduces the effectiveness of the skin routine. Hope you'd find some relief soon and your family can enjoy some 'scratch-free' and 'stress-free' time, take care!

I don't know how well it's received around here, but the Aron Regime is meant for kids. It is a mix of steroid creams AND antibiotics. It's a bit controversial, as your opening up the whole can of worms for prolonged steroid use. Lots of parents swear by it, though.

Foderma serum is the ONLY product that has ever worked on my 4-year-old son's eczema. After trying every product on the shelves, this serum was the one that FINALLY worked! LOVE it! Not greasy absorbs very well and can see a noticable difference by morning.

Hiya, have you tried the skin salvation kit from Pure Potions? This really helped my child....also look at the washing powder you're using on his clothes and even the types of fabrics he is wearing, we use only organic cotton even for his school uniform as he spends all day in it and quite often non organic cotton fabrics have coatings and toxic dyes that irritate sensitive skin particularly in hot weather...we get ours from EcoOutfitters.
I really feel for you, this is an awful thing to watch your child go through, wish you all the best.

Why don't you try tiny troubles rescue cream? It worked for my four year old who was covered from head to toe and NOTHING and I mean NOTHING helped. They do a money back guarantee which is what appealed to my thrifty side when I first bought it and they are lovely to deal with. The point made here about cotton clothes is also very pertinent and worth considering. If none of this works I would also recommend TCM (a reputable Chinese doctor who comes WELL RECOMMENDED). I don't know if your five year old is too young but these TCM doctors can work miracles.

Hi @laureny0107, as I know foods that trigger eczema are not only cow's milk but also eggs, soy, wheat, fish and nuts. It seems to be a lot of foods, so make sure that you don’t eliminate them all. Some very userful tips we proposed in this article: https://forbabycare.com/health-and-baby ... czema/2016. It's working for my 2ys little girl.
Hope that's working for yours as well!

Re: Moms to babies with eczema
My son was about 6 months when he showed signs of eczema. It got pretty bad and I was very hopeless after my doctor told me it was normal and not good related. After months of sleepless nights for both of us and bloody wrists and behind his knees I decided enough was enough. I researched and landed on a YouTube channel that cured my boy almost completely. We both sleep much better and his skin is soft and clear. The initial relief we discovered was using topical things...Butt Paste mixed with Triple Antibiotic ointment and Benadryl extra strength ointment. Works wonders for almost instant relief and clears the redness overnight. The final thing which seemed to cure him was...<drumroll please>...Raw Organic Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar from Braggs. Safe for all. Mix 1tsp. for every 8oz bottle with Apple juice and water. Taste to make sure it's not too strong. Add water or juice if so. Do this 3x a day. I also would put a 1/4 cup of it into his baby tub and let him soak for about ten minutes and don't rinse off just towel dry. Apply ointments. And also if feet are an issue apply super thick amounts and then place socks on. We had him in socks 24/7. Also long comfy lounge pants work best and make sure everything even blankets are 100% cotton. Also we tried just washing his clothes in plain hot water with no soap. Everything matters. We also omitted dairy and didn't let him drink tons during meals as this can disrupt the good acids in the stomach. Good luck and email me if this helped. I would like to know. The only thing that has worked for us is cyclosporine. It is controversial though, as it is experimental and can have long term effects. Talk to your dermatologist. We got to a point where nothing worked despite being diligent all-day long, every day. The cyclosporine has kept things under control so far, and we are in the process of trying to wear my daughter off of it. Unfortunately, as soon as we reduce the dosage, the eczema returns. Good luck!

Re: 5 Year old with eczema - desperately in need help!

We are using silver-coated wound dressings / textiles for our daughter from padycare. The advantage is that together with creams the anti-microbial effect is better and the skin condition improves faster because the ions can better acces the infected spots on the body. She had the infection at her elbows and at the hollow of the knee. There was a study released this year in UK indicating that "only" silk or cotton textiles don't have any positive impact on healing eczema, whereas other studies prove that silver coated textiles do it. We have better experience that way than using cortisone or stereoids. Hope that helps.
