Re: 10 month old son with severe eczema :-(

Hi Ria and Maxwell,

A professor at my University recently advised me to try probiotics (in combination with E45 cream). My legs have cleared up within 2 weeks (despite some minor discolouration), and the itching that has plagued me for a year is finally gone. As a natural skeptic, I was incredibly surprised when this happened, and felt I needed to spread the word, so to speak.

I have attached some peer reviewed articles for you to look at, drinking something like yakult is having some really promising results in children with eczema, especially because it avoids harsh topical creams and one bottle a day is safe for children 8 months and up.

My eczema was not that severe, but it may be worth a try. Perhaps keep up whatever treatment you are still using, and add some probiotic elements into his diet. In the end, it won't do any harm.

Please find the links to articles below. There are many, MANY more, but I have put these ones because you should not need an institutional affiliation to access them.

Best of luck.

Hi!

Just wondering what's the purpose of checking his blood type? It's more important to check if he has any allergy, before cutting out foods and risk nutrition deficiency. There are instances of parents cutting out too much food unnecessarily, bearing in mind that there are environmental triggers, stress and not just food. Do take a skin prick test to find out - I've been there too, paranoid about many foods and my baby turned out not to be allergic to anything.

Hugs,

I feel you should contact the dermatologist and ask to be seen again. You clearly need more help for your baby. There are blood tests they can use to look at allergies along with skin prick tests and there are patch tests to see if anything in the creams you are using is making matters worse. If sick on dairy formula that is considered an immediate allergic reaction. My daughter suffered like this but the soya alternative made her eczema worse. We needed a lot of medical support. With eczema get used to keep going back over and over again. Anna
