Painful Acne

Hello,

I've always suffered from acne and it always increases around the time of my monthly cycle. However recently the breakouts have been more painful and located primarily on my chin area. The thing that worries me is that I went sleep and woke up with one right next to/below/on my lip that is the most painful one and just looks horrible. Is there anyway to prevent future breakouts - especially near my mouth. Also anyway to ease the pain. Although the common spot seems to be my chin I breakout all over my face and those all tend to be really painful as well.

I have photos of my recent breakout if that would be at all helpful.

Thank you for any help you're able to provide.

Re: Painful Acne

you need to treat acne, I htink you have acne. You will probably need at least antibiotics by mouth.

Re: Painful Acne

How do I treat the acne? I know I have it but I am unsure as to how to treat it. Where do I get the oral antibiotics?

Re: Painful Acne

Hello,

you can start from panoxyl gel available overcounter, but your acne sounds quite severe so it may not respond to panoxyl alone. You need to see your GP or a skin specialist to have antibiotics prescribed. Oral contraceptive pill may also help. There are also other treatment available from your GP or a dermatologist.

I hope this is helpful.

Re: Painful Acne

Hi,

In addition to the treatments suggested by Dr Alexandroff could I suggest the following:

1. Make sure you are eating a healthy diet with plenty of fruit and vegetables and low in refined carbohydrates, sugary and fatty foods.

2. Try to manage your stress levels by taking regular time out, exercising regularly and doing things you find absorbing and enjoyable.

3. Because your acne seems to be linked to your menstrual cycle I suggest you try taking an Agnus Castus supplement. Agnus Castus helps to balance the hormones and can often be really effective for preventing acne related to PMS/menstruation.

I hope this helps you.

Best wishes,

Wendy
