Cost of illness

I have bipolar affective disorder and I will need to take medication for the rest of my life.
How come other life long conditions such as diabetes qualify for free prescriptions but mine doesn't? Even with prepayment certificates it is an expensive illness and it seems rather unfair that it doesn't count as important enough to qualify for exemption from payment.
It also seems unfair that if I lived over the border in Wales it would cost me nothing.

Re: Cost of illness

I fully sympathise with your concerns. This may be worth taking up with your local health authority or by writing to your MP.
