Personality disorder and what to do about it?

I've been told that I've had depression and anxiety for many years but very recently have been diagnosed with anxious dependent and/or avoidant personality disorder. Obviously I still have all the depression and anxiety symptoms but I'm now informed that they are symptoms of an underlying issue and attacking them directly by (say) CBT may be either not effective or only give a short respite before the symptoms re-emerge as another symptom. I am awaiting the result of a referral to a specialist PD group but is there anything I can do to help start to break it down or is there any treatment they can actually offer as most papers and articles I've written are either not hopeful or not helpful.

Its certainly worth trying CBT to achieve some symptom control. You can access it online or get books on CBT, if you cant get a referral to local therapists, while you wait for the group to start. Its more about learning to manage your self and symptoms than expecing a cure so any techniques or approach that helps is worthwhile.
