I have had a 3 month trial Kinetico water softener fitted today. Curtersy of Talk Eczema

I suffer from dermatitis & Eczema so do my 2 young boys.

I have tried all types of creams shampoos you name and spent £1000’s of on different products. Nothing really worked.

Will this be a Cure?

Lets see.

I aim to write weekly updates on here just to let people know if this does work or not.

This has only been installed today. To early to talk about any results.

One thing is for sure....the taste of the water has changed it is a bit sour. Maybe just use to the hard water. This reminds me of being up North every time I drink water from up North the water tastes a bit sour. Mainly in soft water area.

So people next week check back for my first report.

HI both.

Thanks for the replys.

1) I will try to keep this updated every other day. No promises though. With the summer holidays I really don’t get that much time to open my laptop.

2) As for photos, I won’t be doing that sorry to disappoint, I not one for photos I don’t even know if my camera still works.

Finally an update to how things are going.

Since we have had the water softer fitted, the water is noticeably softer. There has not been any change to the eczema as of yet.
What I will say every time we have a shower not just me but my kids too, we seem to be itching a little more than usual. Now this could just be due to the change of water or we are just using too much cream with the water softnener.

We have now cut the amount of cream we use now so let’s see in a few days..

The big down side at the moment is the taste of the water we just cannot get use to it. So what we are doing now is switching the softener off, filling bottles of water then switching it back on. This is the only downside at the moment.

As for results I think it is too early to say.

Till next time folks. :D

Hi
We have also been excepted pending review of pipework on the 12th August for the trial.

It will be interesting as my Husband doen't think it will help but I am going to be open minded.
It would be nice to allow my 4 year old to have a bath without a reaction from the water

I will be doing a diary with photos as it helps to compare.

Regards Fiona

Hi Fiona

Thats great. It might help if we do the posts on here together. (If you are happy to do that).

What I will today there has been less ictching. I did not use any cream today, and felt no reactions.....good sign so far. There is still a long way to go yet.

As it is summer the skin does not dry as much, well mine does not.

What I would really want to see is what this is like during the winter times. I think I might be jumping the gun lest get the first 3 months out of the waty first.

Really hope it helps for you.
We got onto the trial but we're moving house so i had to decline. Gutted!
But just for your info my mum has a water softener and they were told they can't drink the water so have a separate tap to drink from. Is it definaltey ok to drink the water? Not meaning to alarm you just thought i should mention it.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that it works an that the eczema improves.

Hi Becky

Thanks for the info.

We dont drink the water, It tastes too bad.....we have to keep switching off the softner, filling bottels of water then turning it back on again. Not ideal.

We did request to have this put into the bath room, but I think couse it was a trial the engineer would'nt.

Over all 1 week has gone by. The two blocks of salt is almost finished. I am not finding any real differance in results yet.apart from using less cream.

I am just hopeing as the week goes by there will be improvement.

I am sure other people may have different results.

I know it is early days yet. but preferance would have been for the softner to be fitted into the bath room.

As we dont have a water tank in the loft, we have mains that connects the whole house, I think this is an issue for me.
