Cyclosporine oral medication for eczema

Hi I am 42 year old female living in the UK and have chronic moderately severe atopic eczema since infancy. Over the past year I have battled with very bad flare ups to my face neck arms legs and chest, and now also to trunk bottom and scalp also. I have been using various topical prescription and over the counter creams ointments and emollients with little effect. Recently my eczema becoming un bearable causing much distress pain discomfort burning itching as a result Im now suffering sleep deprivation and anxiety depression etc. My skin condition usually manageable is now affecting all aspects of my life and I am having more frequent sick days from work. I was referred to a Dermatologist back in March where he prescribed me with a non steroid topical ointment Protopic 0.1% at first this seemed to help but at the moment it seems any cream I use makes my skin worse stings and becomes more itchy. Im even to the point now where getting into a bath of warm water and nothing else Im crying in pain with the sting and itch.
I am returning to the Dermatologist later this month for a review and he has discussed with me the option of taking Cyclosporine which is a immunosuppressant drug used to treat skin conditions such as eczema.

Has anyone used this, is using this, or has any reviews or information on this drug and how it has worked or not for you???
Would appreciate any help.

Re: Cyclosporine oral medication for eczema

Hi! Noted quite a few people sharing in eczema forum on cyclosporine, with good results, perhaps you can contact them. Also there were some comments on cycolsporine in this post

Do discuss more with your dermatologist, like how long, and what are the side effects, and what if it doesn't work by when, what's the alternative etc. Don't be afraid to ask!

Take care,

Re: Cyclosporine oral medication for eczema

I was on Cyclosporin for a year until I had to come off it as are the rules :(

It worked for me once the dose had been tweaked. The first couple of days I had an awful headache and felt rather run down but that didn't last long at all. The worst part was when I had to come off it even though it was working!
