Epaderm contains Sodium Lauryl Sulfate?

6 weeks ago a dermatologist recommended Epaderm - never heard of it before.

Curious why it contains Sodium Lauryl Sulphate when:
"Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) is one of the most irritating cleansing agents used in skin-care products. In fact, it’s considered a standard comparison substance for measuring skin irritancy of other ingredients. Thus in scientific studies, when they want to establish whether or not an ingredient is problematic for skin, they compare its effect to the results of SLS. In amounts of 2% to 5% it can cause allergic or sensitizing reactions in lots of people (Sources: European Journal of Dermatology, September-October 2001, pages 416–419; American Journal of Contact Dermatitis, March 2001, pages 28–32)."

They changed the formulation last year (September, I think), and Epaderm is now SLS-free (cream and ointment).

There was a BIG scandal with Aqueous Cream containing SLS a few years ago. People were using it as a moisturiser instead of a cream shower wash/doctors mis-prescribing it, not understanding the ingredients. People were leaving this moisturiser on the skin. You can imagine the horror. Detergent eating away at the delicate skin tissue. Ugly business. :? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/artic ... worse.html

Molnlycke Health Care would like the following statement posted in order to clarify the comments below:

The Epaderm range of emollients are SLS free and have been since September 2012.

Whilst the manufacturers (Mölnlycke Health Care) never added SLS to the formulation, it was a component of the emulsifying wax used. Furthermore, no adverse reactions with Epaderm & SLS were reported. However, Mölnlycke Health Care did recognise the concern caused by this component and removed any traces of SLS from the formulation last year, with the new versions widely available from September 2012.
