Elocon ointment

Hi all, anybody used Elocon ointment? My 7 months old was prescribed with this by the dematologist.... looked up on the internet and found that it's for 2 years and above...

Any advice?

Both my children use it. My 2 year old uses it but has probably since she was 1, but NOT on her face. It waorks well in 2/3 days

I have used elocon since I was a child but dont find it very helpful, how is it working for you?

Have you tried alternating 2/4 weeks Elocon then swop to Cuitivate or Betnovate? Works but I often forget to switch!!

how do you mean using Elocon for 2/4 weeks and then swop??? Do you mean using different steriods at the same time? what difference does that make? sorry, I am very interested to know as if 1 steriod cream works, what is the need for changing? Pls advise. Thanks.

If you use the same steroid all the time the body can become used to it and it becomes less effective. so we use elocon mainly, but when response is poor or if in a long window of flare we use elocon for 2 weeks then change to a different steroid (betnovate or cutivate) for 2 weeks.

Also we have milder steroids for the face and very strong steroids for the hands and feet. so in all I use 3 different strength steroids on differnt body parts at the same time

I personally wouldnt advise using Elocon on a baby at all, being an eczema sufferer for nearly 30 years Ive used quite a few steriod creams. And Elocon is very strong, when I was prescribed it it was as through my doctor was reluctant due to its strength? I used it and it didnt have much of an effect, however I think if over-used most sterois become inaffective. I sincerely hope your little one grows out of it, which im sure he/she will. I am finding that more and more young children are acquiring this disease, and being a longterm sufferer myself I just want to cry for them. Is it our environment? There must be some reason for the increase, when I was little it was such a rarity.

On the note of creams, have you asked about Protopic, its not as strong but can be affective.

protopic is totally different. it is not a steroid so does not thin the skin. but steroids used under close specialist care should limit this anyway. Protopic is an immune suppressant and carries other risk factors as it is fairly new and there is not the medical data yet to its use and exposure to sun light and risks to skin cancer.. both my kids use it but I refused it for over a year until I realised their quality of life was suffering and steroids were not working. Talk it over with your specialist.

hi my daughter has been using protopic cream for roughly 3weeks now im not sure of the benefits to her so far and was just wondering what your experience with this cream was? thank you

Both my children respond well to the protopic, within a few days we have good results. But during bad times we are using protopic and steroids (spaced out) along with emollients
