Found relief for hand eczema after 30 years of suffering

Oat extract has changed my life. I discovered it quite by accident when I bought a bottle of Lubriderm Lotion With Oat Extract during a visit to the USA. I had planned to use it as a regular skin lotion, but I noticed that my hands began clearing up, and application a couple of times a day gave me normal-looking hands for the first time in 30 years.

I've been taking all of the other common-sense precautions; I wear cotton-lined rubber gloves to do housework or any activity that will bring my hands into contact with detergents, dust, or solvents.

I know that Lubriderm is not available here in the UK, however I've seen that Aveeno puts out a lotion which also contains oat extract. I haven't tried it yet, but I will.

Because oats have the ability to absorb and draw in moisture, it makes sense to me that oat extract might help to keep skin hydrated. I've also been told that those who suffer from eczema on the body have made a sachet of oats for the bath water.

I have truly suffered from hand eczema for so long that I became a member of this forum for the purpose of sharing this miracle. I'm still surprised to look at my hands and see "normal" skin!

Good luck everybody.

thanks i have also suffered from hand eczema for about 30 years when i was younger the doctore prescribed alot of bentnovate cream which i think has thinned the layer of my skin. but i will try aveena cream. i agree it is awful at work and makes you really self-concious.

Hi
Have you tried wetting a muslin cloth or fine sheet, only so it is damp and laying it over you as you rest or sleep. I suffered terribly with my skin when pregnant and this was the only relief.

Re: Found relief for hand eczema after 30 years of suffering

Hi Everyone, Im new to this site, i have eczema too on my hands, back and feet, i havent got it as bad as other people i see as i think myself lucky that i dont suffer with eczema on my face as that i would hate. But the eczema on my hands is bad as it gets me so annoyed as it hurts all the time and wanna itch but i know itching it makes it far worst. I have tried so many creams in the past, my doctors dont fully understand what we all go through when we suffer with eczema, a few weeks ago i asked for another tube of cream, then he goes and gives me a cream that is no good to me what so ever hydrocortisone as its only 1% strong. My eczema on hands is worst than ever right now as its begining to weep, back to doctors for me.

It sounds like you need to start putting your foot down ith the doctor, is there a different doctor you could see or is it time to get a referal to a dermatologist. If your doc is struggling to help you then you need a specialist
