Hand eczema spreading.

I've always suffered with eczema, but only really get flare-ups sometimes now. I've been experiencing one for the last month or so; I went to the doctors and was prescribed a steroid cream but it didn't quite clear it and found it difficult to use as I had to avoid areas in which I had scratched the skin to the point of bleeding. I wore cotton gloves at night to prevent scratching but they always end up on the floor by the morning as they somehow come off my hands during the night.

I have another appointment booked with the GP but as it takes so long to get an appointment, my eczema just gets worse and worse. It has spread from just my hands and wrists to my forearms, legs and some parts of my face (including eyelids). It gets very frustrating for me and I often scratch the skin until it ends up bleeding. I'm hoping I will be referred to a dermatologist by the GP; if not I am considering going privately to get this under control as it is affecting my personal and academic life.

Anyone with experience seeing a dermatologist for eczema, what are they likely to do?

Thanks in advance!

Hi there; you can see the link before which I've interviewed a dermatologist on what to expect for a consultation
