Accident at work

Hi im new to this forum and condition. Well here goes.I am a joiner to trade but due to the state of the building trade I was in a temporary job assembling windows for 8 months. I was brought a pallet of wood to work on when i was sorting it out i noticed it was very wet and had a strong smell so i put it all back on the pallet and left it and went to wash my hands after returning to my workbench my hands became very itchy and red so i returned to washroom to wash again. About 10-15 minutes later my hands were swollen red and very itchy so i went to see the first aider who said to put my hands under running water for minimum of 10 minutes which i did but made no difference
so i was taken to A&E where they covered my hands in vasoline and bandaged up.Next day i removed bandages to see my hands and there were small blisters on my hands i returned to A&E and received the same treatment.I returned to work the following week and was doing a different job away from any chemicals but during my second day back my hands became red swollen and itchy yet again so i saw the health and safety rep who took me straight over to A&E again this time i was given antihistamine tablets and cortisone cream and told to see my Gp. My GP signed me off work for 1 month and referred me to a dermatologist who i have now seen and he has referred me to a skin specialist who i am waiting to see but during this time the lovely bosses at this firm have paid me off. Anyway dermatologist thinks it has caused contact eczema which keeps me up at night and wakes me out my sleep with the itching and pain.I am 45 and im very worried what kind of work i will be able to do in the future as multiple things around the house and garden seem to set my hands off so is it all downhill from here or is there hope for me yet ?

ps sorry about my rant but thought it best to explain how this condition came about

Re: Accident at work

Hi
I would recommend to follow the instructions by your doctors to best aid your rehabilitation.

Your employers should have provided you with protection from any chemicals you may have come in contact with. As they didn't and you had a reaction you are eligable to make an accident at work claim. In this case you'll be claiming for the skin condition that you have contracted.

If this accident has jeopardised your working future you deserve justice.

Re: Accident at work

Most of the employees think that they can file for the compensation only when they are injured during work while handling some faulty work equipment but this is not the only case. It is necessary that they should be aware of their rights for claim as the truth is that they can claim in the cases when they are injured by themselves at the factory or the warehouse of the company only when they are not responsible for that. In case of any injury or diseases then they can contact a solicitor for exact details of the compensation claim.
