prostatitis and BPH.

i am 46 and following ultrasound, and flow rate test the consultant has diagnosed BPH and due to weak flow and not emptying the bladder fully, has recommended a TURP procedure. my concern is that i have prostatitis as i have been suffering from flu like symptons to include tiredness, aching testicles legs and arms, groin pain and periodic joint pain but i don,t have any pain urinating or ejaculating. These symptons seem to flair up some days then go the next but have been around now for a good six weeks.Unfornately my GP has been dismissive and suggested i get on and have the TURP procedure.
Are there any further tests that i could ask for to confirm a self diagnosis of prostatitis and if confirmed the best way of treating it?
Have you any knowledge of a tablet treatment known as " Pulean Formula " which contains powder of the rape flower which suggests it can relieve symptons?
i look forward to your reply, thankyou.

Re: prostatitis and BPH.

Hi

Your symptoms certainly make prostatitis a possibility but the diagnosis is a clinical one - there is no single test that will confirm this as a diagnosis. However, I am intrigued that you are due a TURP.... Given your young age, that is quite a drastic move. I would only presume you have quite severe symptoms that have not responded to treatment with tablets or the medication has caused side effects?

I think you need reassessment. Have you had a prolonged course of an antibiotic such as ciprofloxacin? That could possibly help.....

Not heard of the treatment you mention, but there is no medical evidence that any of the so called phytotherapy agents have any effect on symptoms due to BPH.
