Trying to figure out what's causing my eczema

Hi everyone, it's nice to see there are forums dedicated to dealing with eczema and that I'm not alone.

It started about 6 months ago, when I had an itch around my hips. I thought it was a regular mosquito bite. But it never went away. Then as the months passed by, it spreaded everywhere around my body (arms, legs, neck, armpit area). I don't think my case of eczema as is severe as I've heard others have (the bumps come and go).

I've been taking Betaderm for most of the time to deal with the eczema. Don't know if it actually helped or not, but I haven't had any bad side effects from using it.

I'm trying to figure out what's causing my eczema. Up until 6 months, I've never had eczema in my life before. So I'm assuming it's something that I've been exposed to recently. Here are some potential reactors:

-I moved to a new place about 9 months ago. It's an older house with 5 other people living in it. The house is kind of scruffy and there's been rat problems. And perhaps the people in my house use stuff that I'm not familiar with

-I'll be honest, I haven't cleaned the floor or wiped the walls of my bedroom ever since I moved there. My bedroom isn't dirty, but perhaps the dust is making me allergic

-I switched job locations 8 months ago. I've worked there in the past with no problems. I bring my work up because I get itchy sometimes when I'm sitting down in the cafeteria

-I bought new underwear 6 or 7 months ago and perhaps I'm allergic to the materials.

-I thought about soaps and detergents, but I doubt that's the reason. For about a month, I switched to a softer laundry detergent and showering soap for a month, but it didn't make a difference.

I wanted to ask you guys what you think is causing my eczema. Is it one of these causes I listed, or might it be something else?

Re: Trying to figure out what's causing my eczema

Hi!

Sorry to hear of your eczema and it's quite difficult to deduce the triggers on your own especially with so many different moves you've been making over the past year! (Aside from the eczema, hope the new location/ job is fulfilling!). It would be easier if you can take an allergy test and find out the triggers; the common triggers for adults are house dust mites/ stress. If it is just an area, may be contact with certain materials.Maybe for a start (while waiting for allergy test), you can take good skincare measures (don't hot shower, moisturize after, no soap) and also wash all the bedsheet and pillow cases in hot water and sun the mattress.

Take care!

Thanks for your response, Marcie Mom. I didn't even think of doing an allergy test, that's a great idea. It should help me pinpoint what is causing the eczema. Dust mites could be the reason. I've never had eczema in my life up until the past 8 months. And I will definitely try to air out the mattress, that's something I haven't tried yet either.

Re: Trying to figure out what's causing my eczema

My father suffering from severe dry eczema has got good amount of relief within 5-6 days of application of foderma serum. Skin has started to heal after its application and itching has reduced( not complete relief though). I would recommend this product without any question. When everything got failed, trust me this worked like magic.

Thanks for your recommendation - I googled but the corporate website doesn't say much about the company behind it, the science or the ingredients. Saw quite a few links of positive feedback but I'm not sure if those are paid reviews. Do you have further information on the company behind it? Thanks!

Re: Trying to figure out what's causing my eczema

Good to hear and thanks for the update :) Maybe to not use it too often since it has got better - that way can reduce cost (assume it's expensive) and also reduce the chance of contact allergy in case there's some ingredients that may cause contact rash over prolonged use. Keep us posted! and continue moisturizing, good to have 2 brands - maybe one more expensive, one cheaper (for regular use) and both should not have ingredients that are likely to cause irritation, take care!
