Re: severe eczema

Hello I also have severe eczema and I have had it all my life so I can relate. I am 37 years old now. My eczema is much much better now but its from much trial and error. I have been to many specialist and they all did the same thing which was prescribe a ointment or steroid so I went the holistic way and tried a food elimination diet. I have many allergies so it was worth a try. I stopped eating meat for a while and then I went vegan. It worked a little but not all the way I still itched and scratched so I added meat back in and dairy and went gluten/ wheat free but I still broke out at times and I wasn't healing like when I was on the steroids. So I added the gluten back in and took out the dairy and I saw a big difference but I still broke out at times. So Finally I thought about it and stopped eating dairy and wheat and BAM that just about did it, I began to heal as if I was on steroids which means I began to heal really quick and my skin began to smooth out and not itch as much!! This worked for me but I know everyone is different so continue to try things just remember that eczema is a internal problem so what ever is causing it is coming from either something you are eating or something you are putting on your skin. I still itch sometimes but its mainly from stress and heat once I calm down and cool down I'm fine. I hope this helped you and stay encouraged!!! Your not alone. :D

Re: severe eczema

Sorry to hear that nurses don't check on you when you turn 16 :( I wasn't aware of that.. hopefully, there's an adult/teen dermatology nurse you can turn to. Sorry also to hear that the current doctors are just prescribing creams... more effort should be done to find out what's triggering your eczema (perhaps another blood/ skin prick test?), getting the flare-up under control with non steroids (esp. if you've already been using so much of it). Staph bacteria colonization is another possibility that prevented the skin from healing. Diet is also worth exploring - perhaps there's food intolerances that show up as rash but not identifiable via allergy tests.

Hope you find a doctor or nurse who can work with you to systematically explore various possible triggers and help with your skin, hugs,

Re: severe eczema

The cause of eczema is overreaction of the immune system. Identifying certain foods, chemicals, etc can be very helpful in battling this disease. I try to avoid soy and milk products which trigger my flare-ups.
After using number of prescription drugs I've turned to the natural treatments.
Now I use serenaskin herbal remedies.
After about 2 weeks of using ointment and spray my skin has been cleared up, and I continue with eczema extract, which controls the immune system. My skin has been clear for months.
It is the only treatment I have found that provides me complete relief when I use it as directed.

Re: severe eczema

Hi,

I have a lot of friends that are suffering from eczema. Especially in humid countries like singapore. All along they have been using steroid creams which is harmful to the body and also very reliant to it. Once they stop using it, their eczema became worst. Anyways, their condition are alot better now! Feel free to contact me if u are interested in knowing more. I can share with u! :)

Re: severe eczema

Hi,

I am sorry to hear about your eczema. I know what you feel as I was born with eczema and had it all over my hands. I was constantly embarrassed and would call in sick for work when I had an outbreak because I was a server and didn't want people to see it on my hands. And yes stress was one of my triggers. I tried every cream, lotion the Drs would prescribe, changed my diet and nothing ever helped. I knew all those steroid creams weren't good for me, but they were the only things that seemed to help a little.
I was told I would grow out of it and to hang in there and would eventually grow out of it. Well two years ago I was 27 and still waiting! I wanted to reach out to you because last year I tired something for my health, I was loosing lots of hair and was constantly tired and seemed to have helped my eczema go away! I haven't had an out break in over a year and half and have connected with many people who have had the same out come.

If you are open to hearing the natural approach that worked for me please let me know.

Sunnie :)

Re: severe eczema

Hi there,

My heart breaks reading your story. It is so similar to mine although when they said I would outgrow my eczema, it just got worse and worse and I developed asthma and terrible allergies. Now I'm in my early 30's and have learnt that just through controlling my diet I can reduce it dramatically to the point of almost nothing at all.

I know diet seems like the hard way to do things, but now I see it as the easy way. No drugs, better nutrition and I get to be healthier for the rest of my life.

The most common triggers for eczema are wheat (gluten), dairy, sugar, non-foods like processed foods, colors and preservatives etc, eggs, nightshades (tomato, eggplant) and for many people, meat is an issue. What does that leave you with? It seems like you have nothing left but I still find I can eat out at most restaurants. My diet is plant based and although I do miss chocolate, cheese and pizzas, I now make substitutes for all of them which are amazing. Don't feel like you have to live off raw broccoli forever with a clean diet.

Also, some people find immediate relief when they do elimination diets but for me it took literally months before I saw a change. The skin is the last place to show improvement with the health unfortunately.

If I fall off the wagon and eat everything bad for me, it will take well over a month before my eczema 'starts' to get better again. If you flood your body with all the right nutrients and none of the bad stuff, you are giving yourself the best chance to make healthier and better quality cells to support the health and hopefully eliminate your eczema.

Thinking of you and I hope you find relief soon :)
