A slip in confidence.

Hey guys, this is my first post on here after I was advised to use this site to express the emotional/confidence issues that I face.

I'm 20, at uni and have a date in a few days, which would be all fun and joyful if I didn't look red and wrinkly. All doctors and nurses that I see will tell me what not to do and what creams to use, but they never tell you how to deal with it emotionally. I'm young and go out every now and again but at the moment my skin is stopping me from going on nights out and going out to socialise because I am wary of putting make up on or wearing clothes that aren't loose and baggy as to not irritate my skin.

How do you guys deal with the confidence issues that come with bad skin? Also how do you calm the anxiety that come with it?

I know this is a bit late but, I totally get how you feel. Some days, it's like I don't even want to face the world, everything just feels better in the comfort of my bed, even if I am bleeding all over. But what I have learnt is that that's not true. I used to always be negative about my condition but when it gets bad- I have to force myself to get through it- to get up and take a shower, to wash all my bedsheets, to vacuum, and to live.

I know it gets really hard and just mentally exhausting sometimes but it is that thrive to continue your life no matter what that really bounces you back. I always tell myself, if I got through yesterday, I can get through today. I also talk about my condition to my friends and family- I tell them how draining it can be to have a condition that is chronic. Although this isn't the best advice, telling someone you care about what is bothering you can be really uplifting- you know they won't judge you and worst case scenario where they don't get why you're upset or mentally tired at least you got to complain for a while. For anxiety, I listen to ASMR because it calms me- it definitely isn't everyone's cup of tea so I guess to each their own. All I can say other than that is: don't go through life regretting things just because of your condition. Don't get cynical and remember that your eczema does not define you. All the best with your life!
