Hi!

Have you tried wet wrapping? They have garments for up to 14 year old size, and you can apply an emollient, then a wet layer of the garment, followed by a dry layer.

Sorry to hear about the skin condition, don't give up!

Re: my eczema is ruining my life

You're more than welcome! I've interviewed the wet wrap company, as I got curious too as I've read much about it. Can't share the link here due to forum guideline, but can search my site, a quick extract for you:
Marcie Mom: For wet wrapping, it is stated on your website to wear one damp layer of Tubifast, over the moisturizer, followed by another dry layer. This sounds really warm to me, yet I understand that the damp layer can cool and soothe the skin. How does this work? And how long can the child’s skin be kept cool?

Mölnlycke Health Care: Wet wrapping helps to keep skin hydrated and moist, hence reduces inflammation. It also helps to ease the itch and scratch cycle for ezema patients by giving a cooling sensation to the skin that prevents children from further scratching and causing potential injury. You can constantly keep the damp layer moist by spraying water every few hours (depending on the environment / temperature especially in the air-condition room).

Take care!

Re: my eczema is ruining my life

Hi Debra,

Sorry to hear of the persistent for years eczema you're having.. I only heard of primrose oil which seemed to be studied not to help with eczema but yet dermatologists have reported patients' eczema improvement. Do keep us updated and take care,

Re: my eczema is ruining my life

My eczema got super bad and all over my body about four years ago. My body was inflamed everywhere. It hurt to do anything and to even put clothes on. I would cringe taking showers and getting dressed. Finally, I was able to go to a dermatologist. She recommended creams and medical tanning. I did the medical tanning three times a week for a few months and the tanning sparked the shingles virus in my body. I had shingles on my face which was a very terrible experience. Nothing the dermatologist was helping so she referred me to the Mayo Clinic in MN. I was hospitalized overnight where I went through 24 hours of wet wrapping and was taught to do it at home. I was covered in steroid creams then covered with we gauze and wrapped like a mummy for 24 hours. I continued this process at home but at home you wet a cotton long sleeve and pants then put dry clothes on over that. I was glad that it worked and finally made me feel a little bit normal but after a few weeks I developed horrible stretch marks on my legs, under my arm pits, on my arms and on my mid section. I have never had a problem with stretch marks before but now I have them everywhere and so bad that there is no way to fix them. I am glad I gave the Mayo Clinic a shot but I wish someone would have warned me about doing wet wraps and the effects of the steroid creams. I saw a new doctor close to my new house and she suggested using saran warp from the store. The saran wrap is much more comfortable to wear (wet wraps get cold after a while and wearing wet clothes does not feel good) and it is easier to wear around the house under your clothes. This new doctor also suggested using Olive Oil. She swears by cheaper items and wanted me to do lotion, Olive oil, and saran wrap. The first week I did this it went well but then of course my skin went back to being red. I defiantly and glad she told me about saran wrap because I have never thought of it before. I do the saran wrap method every few weeks because it bring my flares down a lot. The other thing my doctor told me to do was do bleach baths. I add a bit of bleach to my bath tubs to soak to help kill the bad bacteria on my skin. The bleach baths help my skin so much. I do one at least once a week then lotion up!

Re: my eczema is ruining my life

Hey everyone above^^

I'm 18 and have eczema everywhereeee, worst of all on my face, I can sympathise with you all, it gets to me when people don't appreciate the simplest things they have like good skin, my face is either: painfully dry and cracking, incredibly itchy, red raw, bleeding or weeping so its like choosing the lesser of evils, it really affected me a few years back, although I was born with it, it really got to me a few years ago and I thought seriously about suicide, I was just sick of waking up in the morning after hardly any sleep with the itchy ness all night, only to go all day hearing people around me say things like "oh, your face looks bad today" or things like "what's that all over your face" etc.

Anyway, after my friend took her life due to similar circumstances I promised to talk to people suffering from the same thing rather than give in and let it beat us,

Although we suffer, in the end we'll beat it,

Josh x

Re: my eczema is ruining my life

It is sometimes confusing since there are so many products, we couldn't make differences between those which really work and those who don't. My sister has eczema for few months, she used to apply Aloe vera oil but her doctor gave her antibiotics very often, I've seen better result. Yet, she said that natural remedies do really work including homeotherapy remedy, I don't know if you ever tried it.
