18 Year Old with Severe Eczema
I'm an 18 year old student and have had eczema since birth, it cleared up for a while and then came back in year 10 through to year 11, then cleared again. It came back again and I've now had it since September 2009, I've been refered to the Skin specialist but they have not helped, can anyone recommend anything? I've lost my confidence and hate going out. I cant do normal things that an 18 year old should do. Its really taking over my life. Plus its on my face which makes it worse. Any information would help. Thank you. Miah.

Have you ever tried eliminating dairy or gluten from your diet?
Re: 18 Year old with severe eczema :(
Miah I have just been browsing forums who are recommending Sulphur Soap for Acne it's available from Boots and it's Dead Sea Sulphur soap at £3.29 a bar. I have started using it tonight as it's supposed to help with most skin complaints.
Hope this helps you.

I've never heard of that, atm I'm using Doublebase. My skin has cleared up a lot. Although the question is for how long? Thanks for your comment and suggestions guys, I'll be sure to try them out

Hi Miah
We use products from Forever Living. Forever Living is the world’s leading manufacturer of Aloe Vera based products. All of the products are 100% natural and organically made.
Aloe Vera is absolutely amazing for eczema and being 100% natural is so much better than chemicals, etc.
Forever are the only company that have bio-active or 'live' aloe in their products. Some of their products are used at Great Ormond Street Hospital. These are liquid soap, one of their amazing moisturisers and their aloe vera gelly.
We were introduced to Forever because of our son's chronic eczema, which is now non-existent because of these products. We were so impressed and passionate about these results that we joined the company as a distributor.
I hope that you find something suitable. if you would like any more info then please reply.

The relapse of eczema is usually caused by skin dryness. Try mixing your water bath with emolient oil . Also apply moisturizer on skin after each bath to keep the skin moisturized. You can also use cream for the itch to subside.

Re: 18 Year old with severe eczema :(
I'm 19, I avoided getting the prick test all my life because needles make me sick and I was worried that I would have the same problems with the test, and I knew many allergies already. I finally gave in a took the text when I started to get eczema on my eyelids. I know that people have different feelings about them, and I did have a hard time during the test itself, but I am so glad that I took it. I had to follow the prick test with a few months of an avoidance diet and slowly add things back into my diet to see if the results were correct, but I'm glad that I did because peanut turned out to be a false positive, and I now eat peanut products again. The test did correctly tell me that I am allergic to soy (as well as several environmental factors) and now, 5 or so months later, I still have eczema, but it tends to be in small patches and brief flares as opposed to all over my back, legs, elbows, hands, and parts of my torso constantly.
It's possible that I could have come to these conclusions without the prick test, but it helped me narrow down what I needed to test for in the avoidance diet, and get me started eliminating things that were making me very sick immediately. Talking to an allergist, even if you don't get a test, will also be helpful.
It may be that allergies are not your problem, but I would suggest that you look into the possibility. I had no idea I was allergic to soy, and finding this out has truly been life changing. I feel better physically and emotionally, I don't have to worry about infection as much, and I no longer have to spend half an hour each morning and night applying medications.
Good luck!

Hi all,I am now 33 but remember similar times myself. My eczema is now well under control practically gone.My advice is to check wheather you have allergies to gluten, dairy sugar...this can be done with a hair sample test very simply...or just try cutting one out for say three weeks and see if you notice any differance.Be wary of any ingredients that you dont know...stick to a cream without steroids if possible but certainly without sodium laural sulphate, petrolium based ingredients ,perfumes and any sort of preservatives. There is useful information on what to avoid at www.eczemaclothing.com.They also sell an amazing cream that does not contain any of the nasties and is surprisingly effective. It is called ecz-tend,made by a company called gentle green.Best wishes to you.x
