SYSTEMIC NICKEL ALLERGY

Hi my name is Isabella and I'm 18 years old. When I was 13 I started getting blisters, and rashes all over my body until the point that i lost all my legs skin, I was constantly bleeding from my legs and arms (because of the blisters), I even had to be in a wheelchair because I didn't have skin so i wasn't able to walk or move. After a year and half of biopsies and different treatments my doctors concluded that I have a systemic nickel allergy, which means that I can not basically eat, wear or touch anything that contains nickel which sadly is present in almost everything especially on food.
After a long time of trial and error diet, I can now say that I'm a "normal" person again, all my skin has been regenerated and with my diet, medicines and other cares I've being able to live a "normal" life.
However, the problem is that with my extremely restrict diet, my body is not getting the necessary amount of minerals and vitamins as a result I feel weak, i have headaches, fibromyalgia and stomach problems.

Re: SYSTEMIC NICKEL ALLERGY

Dear Isabella
I understand how restrictive your nickel free diet is and agree that you need help in making sure that your body obtains appropriate nutrients in adequate amounts (I believe that what we consume has an impact on our wellbeing). I think this job is best done by a qualified allergy dietician. Unfortunately they are even less common than Allergists, but most big-ish centres will have at least one attached to them. Please check BSACI website for the dietician or an Allergy centre nearest to you. Bear in mind that the nearest department may have a paediatric, but not adult dietician, hence check with them before you book so that appropriate arrangements can be made.
Good luck, Joanna
