raw fruits

when ever i eat certain raw fruits such as apples, melons, cherry's and bananas etc. i get a very itchy throat and my tongue and lips swell slightly (though it seems to get worse each time i eat them) this lasts about 30 mins then calms down. Once the fruit is cooked i have no problem at all.

Re: raw fruits

Hi cherrybena - I think this is quite common. Have you had any allergy tests at all? You may want to take a look at our info & care section as there's quite a bit of information on there about tests http://www.talkhealthpartnership.com/ta ... /index.php

Hope this helps.

Re: raw fruits

hi :)
I'm new here but I love to help people with my expierence!
hhmmm... I would recommend a blood test by your allergist, maybe it is an histamine intolerance. It's a pretty unknown intolerance and many people don't think about this.

As I've read, bertyolmer is using a dietary supplement called Daosin against histamine intolerance. Hope you'll find the answer you're looking for :)

Re: raw fruits

I totally agree with "AlexBuckanan"!

I made my expiernce with histamine as well and it really sounds like that. Food which ripens like fruits and vegetables are high in histamine. Also like red wine for example.

There are many dietary supplements available, but I'm using Daosin too :) For me it's the best supplement

Get well soon

Re: raw fruits

Hi Cherrybena,
This is not uncommon if you also have hay fever. Some of the proteins in fresh fruits, especially stone fruits, have similarity in structure to tree and grass pollen. This causes a limited reaction with tingling around the mouth and lips. It does not cause a life threatening reaction. Most people tolerate the fruits in the cooked form or if it has been processed for commercial products like jams. It is called pollen food allergy syndrome.
You should consider getting skin prick testing or specific IgE antibodies tested for airborne allergens including most pollens.
The symptoms may resolve with oral desensitisation to pollen.
