Recurrent skin problem

Hello,
Over the past 2 years I have been suffering from recurrent very painful, hacked, dry & flaky corners of my mouth. That spread to the top & bottom of my lips, then to the surrounding skin around my mouth, like a wet wound. My GP prescribed me 1% hydrocortisone cream which completely cleared it. However, if I stop applying it even for a few days it instantly comes back. I have now sparing been using it daily for a year now.
I went back to my GP was put on anti-fungal drugs but to no affect. My GP has now given up trying to find out what may be causing this and said I can continue to use the cream as she dosent know any other method of treatment.
I am inquiring into what you might think may be the cause? Also is there any other treatments you would suggest? As I would prefer to stop using the cream as I know long term it can cause damage and thinning of the skin etc.

Many thanks
