depression

Hi I have been a colitis sufferer for 17 yrs and what with other personal problems I suffer more and more from depression but when I try to speak to my gp about it all they say is things like what do yuo think talking to somebody will do to help you and I get the impession that with all the cost cutting in the nhs I am being fobbed off.I dont want to be given antidepressant if I can help it as I am already on 4 meddications already annd am not keen on tablet taking. I feel I cannot talk to freinds or relatives about the way I feel as I am a very private person, that is why I am online now. What advise can you give me
