Re: Vaginismus
Vaginimisus can make sex impossible or painful because of the spasm of vaginal muscles when penetration is attempted, you may also find it difficult to use tampons, have smears and other genital examinations. Vaginismus can occur following trauma caused by birth, sex, abuse or infection. Women with vaginismus often have distorted ideas about the size and other characteristics of their vagina.
Your doctor possibly has not given you treatment because you have no infection which could be causing you to spasm . I feel this is perhaps psychological, caused by an anticipation of pain - if this is the cause your doctors should consider referring you for psychosexual therapy.
At Sexual Health Birmingham http://www.sexualhealthbirmingham.nhs.uk we have doctors and consultants specially trained in recognising sexual dysfunction. If the Doctor feels your issues are psychological - i.e may have been caused by abuse, fear of sex, deep rooted negative messages - they may refer you for psychosexual therapy, with a qualified sex therapist who with then explore what may have caused you to have this issue and begin to work with the factors which are maintaining your inability to have sex or experience pain-free and pleasurable sex.
