Ideas for a Low Carb Diet

I would appreciate any ideas for a low carb diet that is simple and quick to prepare and low cost (as I am on a very low income).

I do not have the energy to stand/sit and prepare food and have to rely heavily on ready meals at present

I am also a type 2 diabetic (Insulin and tablets) with very poor blood glucose levels and almost permanently hyperglycaemic.

All help advice appreciated.

Re: Ideas for a Low Carb Diet

Hello

Please do speak with your doctor (or dietitian if you have one), before changing how much carbs you are eating. When you have type 2 diabetes and are insulin treated you will have the risk of your blood glucose (sugar) going too low . When you eat carbohydrates these are digested in the stomach, and then released as glucose into the blood and it is important to balance your insulin dose with the carbohydrate amount you eat.

Any change or cutting back of carbs will need to be monitored closely with more blood testing. Your insulin dose may need changing as well. It would definitely be worth asking if you are not under a diabetes team to be referred for more help.

You mentioned your blood sugars are not well controlled, and getting them more controlled in itself is likely to make you feel a bit better.
