depression and chronic fatigue

My daughter has had CFS for over 7 years. She is no longer able to support herself and is living with us.
Her counsellor says her clinical depression and the variety of changing physical symptoms are preventing
her from moving forward in therapy. We need to find an in house therapeutic clinic to help her but they do not know of any? Can anyone suggest anything/anywhere even in States.
We live in dorset

Re: depression and chronic fatigue

Linda

Sorry to hear about your daughter

As with any long term illness some people with ME/CFS go on to develop clinical depression and when this occurs it has to be taken seriously as it will have a very negative impact on any recovery process that may be taking place

There are both drug treatments and talking treatments for depression - sometimes used alone; sometimes in combination

The MEA has a new information leaflet covering depression and its management

But your daughter really needs some professional help here

This is a website that provides very useful information on psychological treatments
http://www.iapt.nhs.uk

So you must go and discuss this with your GP and ask about referral to a specialist NHS service if he/she feels that more help is required for your daughter's depression

Alternatively, you could ask for a referral to the ME/CFS service that is based at Wareham Hospital in Dorset - who can look at the whole picture

MEA website and pdf literature form: http://www.meassociation.org.uk

From the MEA website list of NHS services:

DORSET

Tel: 01929 557560
This service is provided through an outpatient clinic at Wareham Community Hospital, Streche Road, Wareham, Dorset BH20 4QQ. The service – which has been suported throughout by the Dorset ME Group – celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2009. The clinical lead is Dr Selwyn Richards, a consultant rheumatologist.
