uvb for psoriasis

hi,

I have chronic psoriasis - before they used to disappear with application of diprosalic - steroids and tar make my skin really itchy - all tropical treatments iv been through and apart from diprosalic nothing seems to work - I am having UVB for past month and a half - on about 1 min 50 sec i had a reaction - skin went sore, itchy, burning sensation and felt like needles being pricked into the skin - i applied betnovate cream and took steroids 20mg (can not remember the name) for 7 days - that calmed the skin a bit - went back for UVB after a week and today same symptoms accompained by feeling of being cold and shivery but a bit less severe than before - btw my whole body is covered apart from my face hands and feet -

My GP reckons I have had a reaction - but the dermatology nurse does not think so - I would like to know if I should continue UVB - what other options are out there - i am really sick and tired of my psoriasis now - I feel like i need a break from them - its been so long - help please

Many thanks

Regards

Sumaira

Re: uvb for psoriasis

Dear Sumaira,
you may want to ask to be checked by a dermatologist. Sometimes UVB can exacerbate psoriasis. Psoriasis can also flare up on stopping oral steroids.
If creams and phototherapy are not helpful you can discuss further treatment options with your dermatologist eg methotrexate, ciclosporin and if appropriate injections called biologics.
