Non-Bullous Ichthyosiform Erythroderma

Hello ,
I'm 26 yr Male from India.I have nonbullous ichthyosis erythroderma since birth. I have very dry skin all over body and face and neck get Red always . Even I get so much watering in my eyes and skin around the eyes pulls so tightly it causes the eyelids to turn outward exposing the inner red lid and causing continuous irritation. Because of this I lose confidence in front of stranger and Interviewer. Even I got to know that the problem of icthyosis will still exist if i get baby or in my coming genetics . But in my whole family no one is there , who has having Icthyosis or these kind of diseases.

I Use Treatment
For Body : Lotion of mixture of Glycerine(60%), Rose Water(20%) and Mineral Water(20%) on all over my body since birth. It gives me so much moisturizer and Itching free Body. Some Times i use Azadirachta indica or Neem Tree and boil it in water and take Bath. It will remove unwanted water from my skin which i get after itching,
For Face : AquaSoft Cream, sofradex f Cream and have to get facial massage every interval of 15 days.
For Eyes: Tear Naturale Eyes Drops
For Itching : levocetirizine Tablet Daily

So please tell me how i deal with my watering eyes and confidence.

Hi! Given your description, it sounds like you have what is also known as Autosomal Recessive Congenital Ichthyosis, or ARCI.

The pulled down eye problem is called ectropion. If you don't keep your eyes hydrated, they can dry out and cause corneal damage, called erosion. This takes a very long time to heal.

In addition to the drops you are using during the day, can you get ophthalmic petroleum jelly for your eyes at night?

The pulling comes from the very dry skin under your eyes. A topical retinoid like tazarotene works really well to loosen the skin up there. If you don't have access to that, you could also try an alphy hydroxy acid lotion under your eyes, such as salicylic, glycolic or lactic acid lotions.

Posts on talkhealth online clinic should, and will, be answered only by the medical expert panel. Please would patients and patient organisations refrain from directly answering other patients questions and giving medical advice. The medical experts for this online clinic will be answering questions throughout the week 18th-24th September. This clinic is probably most relevant to patients in the UK as treatments and advice may vary from guidelines and practice used overseas.

Thank you

Eye problems are very common in association with ichthyosis. In the UK we advise that all patients with the symptoms you describe should be under the ongoing care of an ophthalmologist with experience of this condition. We would also recommend that you see a dermatologist with experience of ichthyosis in order to provide you with a definite diagnosis and genetic advice.

I am afraid that I am not able to inform you how best to go about having appropriate specialist care for your eyes in India
