Loneliness

Hi,
I am in my late thirties and I am feeling in such a mess. I have been living alone in rented accommodation
I have a good job where I work closely with people. However it is a very tense environment but its the job that keeps me going. At the moment I work long days then go home, watch tv and go to bed. I am struggling with money and my health has been poor. I am living from day to day And there is no money for entertainment. My one luxury is a gym membership which I use. I have never had a relationship and have no family. I just feel like I have not achieved much in my life, no house, no family. I just can't see a way out of this unhappiness. I don't feel down or sad but I do feel trapped. I'm scared of ending up alone but my confidence is gone.

Re: Loneliness

Hello Jenny,

Sorry to read about your ongoing challenges.

Some of the sponsoring organisations of this clinic offer groups and support events to help people with such issues. There is evidence to suggest that ongoing social interaction can be a real tonic for improving levels of life satisfaction and general mood.

Consider looking at the websites for MIND and Rethink Mental Health:

Mind - http://www.mind.org.uk

Rethink -http://www.rethink.org

The groups do not cost anything. Likewise, there are a number of ways to establish and develop some meaning and purpose within your life by even considering offering your services to charitable organisations or a worthy cause that you feel strongly about.

With regards to building confidence, you might like to consider reading some of the other threads in this clinic, from Gary Turner and myself, who offer a range of strategies for taking control of your thoughts and feelings.

I wish you the very best going forward, Adam.
