Re: symptoms

Hello Sam

Thanks for your post about how to recognise the symptoms of ADHD in children.

Symptoms can vary from child to child but generally they are characterised by behaviours such as inattention, difficulty in concentrating and hyperactivity.

Common symptoms:
  • difficulty with attentions span - again this can be a problem at school where it may be difficult for a child to pay attention for long periods during lessons

disorganised - tends to forget things easily and may have difficulty in completing homework

easily distracted from an ongoing task

fidgeting and restlessness - again this is particularly noticeable in the classroom and in the home the parent may notice that the child may be very noisy and over-active at play
While it is not unusual for young children to have these traits to some extent, it is when they cause problems, particularly if it is excessive and interfere with their school work and daily life that it is best to get the child assessed.

You can read more about this condition here:http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Attention- ... ction.aspx

Sam, if you are concerned that your child may have this condition do consider speaking to the school's special education needs co-ordinator (SENCO) or talk to your GP for more support.

Best wishes
