Light Therapy
Hey guys,
I am going to start light therapy in about two weeks. I am really looking forward to it as my condition is quite severe at the moment, I can barely use my hands!
My question to you guys, if you've had this treatment of course is how long until you start seeing and feeling a difference? Is it comfortable staying in there standing for 15 minutes?
Lastly, I was advised to buy a black jockstrap to wear during treatment to protect my genitals, I've been looking online and most of them look vulgar - I don't want to go in there looking silly lol, can any of you point me to somewhere I can get decent ones?
Thank you!

Re: Light Therapy
I am currently having light therapy although I have had it before. I would be very surprised if you ever go in the cubicle for 15 minutes! My first session was 19 seconds and it goes up by around 10 seconds each time. Tomorrow will be my 6th and I haven't even reached a minute yet, they like to be careful as some people can burn- personally I am not at risk of that as have quite olive skin but they still do not take the risk.
I can't really help you on when you will start noticing a difference, mine is basically gone but I have also tried other things for example coconut oil/vitamin d tablets/fish oil tablets and also have dead sea salt arriving tomorrow, as well as having had my tonsils removed!
As for your jock strap I definitely cannot help you with that, apologies! (we girls don't have that problem)

Hello,
Did you try to cure in home? I bought such a specialist fluorescent lamp with housing for phototherapy that can be used for psoriasis and vitiligo on eBay and now use it in my house.
Hope you each find what works for you, all the best.
Ann

Re: Light Therapy
Light therapy has been proven to be effective but it depends on each individual, it maybe effective for the others but not for you that's why you should always ask your doctor before going into it; however I've been hearing that it is better only three times a week and just for few minutes but I don't know its reliability.
Re: Light Therapy
Hi i am also about to start the light therapy and am feeling nervous. I have tried many different treatments with no results hoping this could be the answer. I am feeling aprehensive about having to be naked did anyone else feel like this?
Re: Light Therapy
Hi, you don't say whether it is UVB or UVA plus drugs you have been prescribed. I had PUVA (UVA) for some time and the drugs didn't agree with me (one note, if you are having UVA (PUVA) make sure you eat enough beforehand otherwise you will potentially feel very sick), so I was switched to narrowband UBV. This worked fantastically for me, and I had it for many years. Now sadly I have been told that after years of this treatment which makes me feel human again, I have reached my limit for exposure and have to look at taking drugs, something I am not happy with. Anyone given the opportunity to try light treatment should certainly give it a try - for me it was wonderful, and I would love others to have that feeling of elation when your psoriasis clears. It doesn't work for everyone - but good luck!

Re: Light Therapy
Hello everyone! I'm kind of a newbie here, but unfortunately, not a newbie to psoriasis. Theoretically light therapy has been proven to be effective but I'd say it really depends. I have been through Heliotherapy (it is a fancy-schmancy term for light therapy that uses controlled exposure to sunlight, in moderation) and it helped... for about a month or so And after that my skin went back to its default psoriasis state which is difficult to live with Now I'm thinking about laser therapy but it's not without difficulty too.
It should have the same results as UVB therapy but it's cheaper and more convenient. I created a website for all those who suffer like I do solongpsoriasis.com - where I try to post occasionally news and information about psoriasis. For me, the most difficult thing is not the illness itself but the social stigma that comes with the package. How about you?

Re: Light Therapy
When you are having psoriasis, it's necessary to follow the advice of the doctor. Still, you can much more on your own to help control and prevent flare-ups.
1) Using Moisturizing Lotions.
because situation’s gets worst skin gets dry and keep skin soft and nourishing.
2) Take Care of Skin and Scalp
You can consult doctor before applying any sort of cream
3) Avoid Dry and cold weather
Climate can have a big effect on psoriasis
4) Make use of Humidifier if needed
Turn on the humidifier when your house air is dry.
