Breakfast Sickness/Bloating

For the past three weeks as soon as I have woken up in the morning I have been throwing up. I believe this is due to a build up of mucus on my gag reflex. The main problem however is the fact that after throwing up my stomach feels bloated and anything I eat before 2pm I seem to have a very hard time keeping down. However as the hours go by I feel perfectly fine late at night. This is having a serious effect on what I can do before lunch time, and as a university student (19 years old) I am missing multiple early lectures a week.

I recently tried Beconase spray as a decongestant however this has had no success. Any recommendations on what the cause may be or any medication I can take would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Breakfast Sickness/Bloating

Hi, what a nightmare!

I would suggest a trip to your GP for sure - there are so many variables!

From my side as a personal trainer and hypnotherapist it could be down to diet issues or even learnt behaviour (associative learning) - and even within these it could be so many things!

I wouldn't recommend going straight for medication - you don't know what you need it for yet, you've got the symptoms, yet no the cause. GP will be your first steps I think...

I agree with Gary - definitely something you shouldn't put up with and I'd be wary of self medicating until you have discussed what might be causing it. You haven't said what sex you are, but obviously as a 19yr old, if you are female, are you sure you aren't pregnant?! Don't mean to frighten you, but if in doubt, check!

Otherwise there is a long list of possible causes - acid reflux / gastritis - common in students due to the occasional alcoholic drink - might be the most likely - but needs proper assessment face to face with your doctor.
