Pelvic pain

Hi,

I am currently pregnant with my second child and have been experiencing quite a lot of pain in my pelvis and bladder. I have also noticed some quite ugly veins appearing around the top of my thigh. These first appeared during my first pregnancy however, they disappeared quite quickly after my son was born so I didn't think anything of them.

I have done a bit of online research and discovered that they could be varicose veins? If this is the case then should I visit my GP or is there anything I can do on my own to help them?

Many thanks,
Ruth

Re: Pelvic pain

Unfortunately they can be varicose veins nd there is little your GP can do. It is sensible to avoid too much weight gain or standing and support tights and socks can sometimes help.

Re: Pelvic pain

Dear Ruth,

Yes it is highly likely that you have got varicose veins coming from the pelvis. There is usually little you can do until you have had your child.

When you saw them with your last pregnancy, they didn't really disappear afterwards, they just couldn't be seen from the surface. As such, until the fixed, it is likely that they'll get worse each pregnancy.

You will need to get a referral to a specialist vein centre that deals with pelvic veins for a transvaginal duplex scan once you have had your baby.

Once you've had your baby, once again they will "appear" to have gone - however the problem will still be lurking in the pelvis and so that is the best time to get it fixed.

With best wishes
