Pain when passing stools

I've noticed that the last time i passed my stools that i experience a sharp and sore pain. and is sore and uncomfortable for a few hours afterwards. They are also quite hard, small and difficult to pass at times but there is no irregularity in the frequency or colour. Could this be my diet? (I have also been diagnosed with health anxiety which is a considerable factor in my day to day life).

Re: Pain when passing stools

Hi
Without knowing what your current diet is it is difficult to say but hard to pass stools that are seperate lumps do suggest constipation - it is very common. Constipation can occur as a result of inadequate sources of fibre (wholegrain foods, fruit and vegetables) in your diet and also if you are not drinking enough fluid but without knowing what you are eating and drinking it is difficult to say if you are having enough. If you are not used to eating fibre you should introduce it slowly into your diet and this will help stools to be passed more easily. Constipation is usually something that is treated very easily and not something generally to be concerned about, but you should arrange to visit your GP who can advise you on other treatments if you are struggling to manage by making simple changes.
