Re: duodenitis

Hi

Hopefully the doctors can give you more specific advice with regard to treatment for duodenitis - but if you have not heard anything from your hospital doctor contact the doctors secretary through the hospital main switchboard you can chase up what treatment has been advised. I hope this helps.

Re: duodenitis

Duodenitis is mild inflammation of the duodenum and has nothing to do with constipation. The inflammation may be due to a bug called H pylori and the docs would have done a biopsy for this. If it was negative and you do not need a week of antibiotics to get rid of it then you may need a trial of an antacid like omeprazole 20mg once a day for 8 weeks. Also excessive use of drugs such as ibuprofen and voltarol should be avoided. None of this would explain or treat constipation. It sounds like the endoscopy exams were otherwise reassuring and so often we treat constipation with a daily laxative and there are no long term harmful effects from so doing. However a dietary based approach may be useful too and your GP could refer you to a dietician but often what we eat may not help move our bowels and in that situation a laxative is then needed....
