Hi There,
Insect bites cause problems in two ways:
Firstly they can promote an intense inflammatory reaction causing redness, swelling of the skin and itch. The combination can cause fluid to build up within the bite, which may form minute blisters called vesicles and if scratched can cause fluid to ooze.
Secondly they can become infected either from the trauma of scratching or from the bite itself.
To reduce the inflammation a strong steroid cream can help, and antibiotics can help with any infection. There are some strong steroid/antibiotic topical preparations which can be very useful if this is a recurring problem.
From what you report, it may be wise to see you GP if it is continuing to grow as you may require antibiotics.
