Mole advice
Hello!
I have a mole on the sole of my foot. It appeared about 6 or so years ago (I'm 29). Im worried that it's got bigger, but not huge, it's still about 7mm across. But the edge now seems more blurred, and theres one bit that sticks out more, like a thin branch. I don't remember it being there. Should it be checked? Its not raised, the middle is bumpier though, and not itchy or bleeding. Dark brown, with paler bits, and asymmetrical.
Thanks! X

Re: Mole advice
A quick check list which indicates a mole should be checked as it could be changing in an abnormal way can be easily remembered by
ABCD
A - the mole is Asymmetrical in shape
B - the Border of the mole is irregular
C - the Colour of the mole is uneven
D - the Diameter of the mole is getting bigger i.e, the mole is growing
It sounds like your mole fits all these features and it is therefore important that you see your GP so they can assess and check your mole for you. It may prove not to be a problem but with these features it is important to be sure.

HI There,
I agree entirely with Dr Layton's comments. Any changing mole needs to be checked by your doctor.
Importantly many GPs, in addition to dermatologists, are now trained in using dermatoscopes, handheld microscopes that dermatologists use to examine moles. Benign moles on the soles typically show certain patterns that, if present , can be very reassuring and avoid the need for a biopsy. If with dermoscopy there are unpredictable features seen then a biopsy should be performed.
See your GP and get the mole checked this week.
I hope this helps
