Mole advice

Hello!
I have a mole on the sole of my foot. It appeared about 6 or so years ago (I'm 29). Im worried that it's got bigger, but not huge, it's still about 7mm across. But the edge now seems more blurred, and theres one bit that sticks out more, like a thin branch. I don't remember it being there. Should it be checked? Its not raised, the middle is bumpier though, and not itchy or bleeding. Dark brown, with paler bits, and asymmetrical.
Thanks! X

Re: Mole advice

Hi

Thanks for getting in touch. Any mole which is changing in its appearance should be reviewed by a doctor. Your initial port of call should be your GP. If they are concerned they should refer you to a Consultant Dermatologist for assessment. You should be seen within 2 weeks of being referred.

Remember, 'if in doubt, check it out'.

Re: Mole advice

Thank you for taking the time to reply. Ive booked an appointment for in a weeks time. Didn't realise you could get moles on your feet, especially the soles which hardly get any sun exposure. Oddly enough I probably wouldn't have gone to the Gp if it had been elsewhere, as I would have assumed the sun had tanned it more (which I know now is wrong and quite a stupid thing to think).
Do you have to see your Gp each time you get a new mole? x

Re: Mole advice

Hi

You can continue developing new moles into your early 30s but generally they are rare after this age. Whether or not you need to be worried depends on the features of the mole itself but also your own history such as a family history of melanoma, the number of moles you have, a history of previous burning or sunbed use.

Because the skin is so readily accessible, it just needs someone who is an expert (a Dermatologist) to look and decide whether anything further needs to be done.

Hope that helps :)
