Re: treatment of scars and acne

Keloid scars are difficult to treat. The options available include a silicone based gel called Dermatix. This can be bought over the counter or prescribed by a GP. It can soften and flatten scars and reduce redness in some cases. There is also a tape called haelan tape available to treat scars. This contains a steroid which is impregnated in the tape and the tape should be prescribed and used under the direction of your GP.
Dermatologists sometimes use an injection of steroid into keloid scars, this is called intralesional triamcinolone. Laser treatments have also been used in some cases but they are not always successful and not always easily accessed on the NHS.
