poor digestive health

Hi My husband has several problems mainly to do with his digestive health,he coughs all the time & has been to a specialist who thought it maybe caused by acid reflux-however the cough comes on with change in temperature, moving from room to room -any change, basically if he sits still for a period of time in one room he doesn't cough,he has had painful oesophagal spasms & was given dom peridon which helped but constipated him,he's had heartburn for years & on Lanzoprozole at the moment, after other prescribed & non prescribed medications that just do not seem to work anymore ,he has a anal fissure & very rarely goes to the toilet properly, his mum has a twisted stomach & also coughs a lot as does his sister (coughs a lot)
He's really fed up & never feels well.
Help anyone?

Re: poor digestive health

A cough is rarely caused by reflux of acid. I would take the lansoprazole for the reflux but the cough sounds unrelated I am afraid e.g changes with temperature. Patients a feeling of reflux that gets better with ant acid treatment but they STILL have a cough indicates it is unlikely to be related to acid. Anal fissures can be annoying so keep the stool soft and avoid straining. If a daily laxative is needed then use one do not be put off if it keeps a fissure away. Long term fissures that fail to heal can be treated in other ways which may include Botox or even surgery but it is rare I ever refer patients for those interventions
