Post-flare up conditions?

Hi,
So I've STRUGGLED with eczema forever, only diagnosed 15 years ago. I usually manage ok by focusing on prevention, and I've found ways to successfully treat when I do get flare-ups (usually on my hands). But, I had a really bad flare up on my face that was so persistent, I even sought medical help since it was completely unaffected by my usual methods. After 5 months my face is finally free of open wounds (yay!). But it hasn't completely gone away so I'm still using emollients and aloe etc, however now i have a new issue. Milia or, colorless bumps of trapped keratin everywhere the eczema was. Anyone else ever experience this? Did they go away on their own? Or spread? It's recommended to exfoliate milia but I'm afraid that will irritate the eczema? Thanks

Re: Post-flare up conditions?

Hi! I do think have to be careful with exfoliation, as you wouldn't want to damage the skin barrier; found an article that Dr Claudia Aguirre wrote

She's also a guest on my blog, can refer to her discussion on stress

Take care!

How to Avoid Atopic Dermatitis Flare-Ups.

Flare-ups can be one of the most frustrating parts of atopic dermatitis (AD). Even when you follow a consistent prevention plan with a good skincare routine, a bad flare-up can still set you back.

Many factors in a person’s environment can make eczema worse. These include;
  • Heat, dust and contact with irritants such as soap or detergents
    Being unwell: for example having a common cold can make eczema flare
    Infections with bacteria or viruses can make eczema worse. Bacterial infection (usually with a bug called Staphylococcus) makes the affected skin yellow, crusty and inflamed, and may need treatment with antibiotics. An infection with the virus that causes cold sores
When your next flare-up happens, consider all of the above factors and see if you can pinpoint your triggers. You may also want to go through the following mental checklist:
  • Did I spend time in a new environment where I may have been exposed to new allergens or irritants?
    Did the flare-up happen during a specific activity like cleaning or exercising?
    Did the flare-up happen when changing into a specific item of clothing like a sweater or a new pair of socks?
    Did I eat something different today?
