Advice please

Hello, nice to be here, I’m looking for some advice.
I’ve had eczema since I was a child, I’m 59 now and nothing seems to work for me to alleviate the problem, in fact it seems to get worse. I have been through all the usual NHS advised strategies -emollient creams of all types and steroid creams. It took a while to realise that ANY of the lotions
actually irritated my skin even more so now I don’t use these. I take all the usual precautions, non bio washing powder, soap substitutes, I hoover regularly and have anti dust mite bedding. I have had
light therapy with no effect. The only thing that worked at all for me was a drug called Toctino which cleared my hand eczema right up for 6 months but I couldn’t go back on it as it was having an effect on my liver. I am a musician and the hand eczema is a real problem and on top of that if I wear headphones I get irritation on my ears and this affects my sleep greatly. I wear T shirts usually but if I
have to put a long sleeved shirt on I’ll get patches of eczema where the sleeves are.
In desperation I was just about to go on a non-dairy diet to see if any improvement occurred.

Now I’m thinking that as I seem to have exhausted all the NHS solutions whether to go to a private specialist.
Has anybody been down this route and was it successful?
Thanks for any help,
Mike.

Re: Advice please

Hi! Sorry to hear of all the cumulative problems; I'm not familiar with NHS but I do think that going to a private specialist would help as the same doctor can monitor your skin condition, and help to work through the allergy tests (patch test, skin prick test) and able to diagnose more accurately and hopefully help with more targeted treatment. Hope all get better soon, take care.

Re: Advice please

Hi Mei and thanks for the reply.
I did have the allergy test at my GP's many years ago which to be honest didn't help.
It identified certain preservatives found in the odd cleaning product which I have avoided since with absolutely no difference to my condition so I'm a bit dubious about how relevant those tests are.
I have been through every treatment the NHS has to offer and none of it works. At all.

I imagine a step on the road would be to find out where my eczema originates which is where I am hoping a private practitioner would have more time to discover.
Any views on how I can take this forward?

Thank you,
Mike

Re: Advice please

Hi Mike,

Sorry to hear if your challenges. I struggled with eczema from the age of about 5 until my early 30s. I used to spend my time switching from one cream to the next, one type of bed sheet to the next, washing powders etc - and the stuff you're talking about. I then discovered eczema is an inflammatory disease. I wrote The Vitality Secret and during my research for this is when I accidentally landed upon the fact your skin is just communicating with you that you have toxicity in your body. It's in indication of something out of balance in your body. Any kind of skin condition in fact, is just communicating with you that you need to make some dietary changes. Inflammation is an immune system response to what it perceives as an attack on it. I've created a brand new program called ClearSkinIn7.com and on that page you'll see a video of me explaining what I found out - and 2 staple foods that trigger inflammation. Check it out and let me know if you have any questions. I'm not sure if you can email me on this - try if you can. Otherwise, you can find me online by googling my name and The Vitality Secret.

Thank you,

Neil

Re: Advice please

I would assume that a private dermatologist that is experienced will be able to offer more help than GP.. may have to ask around, i.e. find one who is experienced, with also background in allergy/ immunology. Allergy testing require an experienced specialist to help you work through the results as well.. worth a try.. also cleaning skin to rid of staph bacteria, wet wrap etc Take care, hope you'd find some relief soon!
