Allergy Clinc

Hi,
I have never had an allergic reaction to anything in my life before. Now in the space of 6 months I have had 2, to seemly different things. I have an allergy appointment coming up and am not sure quite what it entails, could anyone spread any light on this for me?
Am I allowed to travel alone after testings?
Am I required to fast before the test?
Am I okay to take my daily medications, that I've been on for sometime now?
How do they test for allergies? I'm having visions of being a pin cushion for the day
