Re: nut allergies
Dear pamela62,
This sounds like an allergic reaction to cashew nut. This could be true nut allergy (associated with severe allergic reactions and possible anaphylaxis) or oral allergy syndrome to nuts which results from cross-reactivity to tree pollens and is less commonly associated with severe allergic reactions.
The fact that your tongue felt swollen is quite worrying thus I would recommend avoiding all nuts that you have had allergic reactions to and seeing an Allergy specialist for further testing. I would not recommend trying to treat this with home remedies but I would recommend that you carry antihistamines with you at all times (such as Cetirizine) in case of accidental exposure to nuts. If you felt that you had any difficulty breathing with cashew or any other nut I would also recommend getting adrenaline autoinjectors from your GP whilst you wait for your appointment with the Allergy specialist.
