secondhand smoke

I don't have any respiratory diseases, but there was no place to post this. I want to find out if my experience with secondhand smoke is typical or not. I've had terrible luck with renting apartments, often winding up next to a chainsmoker, which causes me to have respiratory problems, nausea, etc.

I wonder if I have an exceptional vulnerability to cigarette smoke, or whether this is a common problem.

I moved twice last year to get away from secondhand smoke, and I am about to move again. There are no laws where I live regarding smoking in apartment buildings, although it is prohibited in all public buildings. Landlords can prohibit smoking in their buildings, but they don't seem to have any way of enforcing it.
