Hello dr
I had a sterilisation reversal in 2012 my tubes are now scarred and blocked can I get another operation to reopen the tube on the nhs iam 43 and desperately want another child.

Hi. This is the nurse replying, and hope that is OK. I would very much doubt that the NHS would fund a reconstruction operation on your damaged tubes. You would probably be talking about quite a complicated procedure here, with no guarantees as to it being successful. Sometimes an operation such as this can go OK, but then the tubes collapse down again. It would most likely entail an abdominal operation with several weeks’ recovery afterwards. If you haven’t already done so, I would see your GP and ask him/her to check your hormones to see how your fertility is. If all is OK then you could be referred to a specialist for possible IVF treatment, but as I assume, you already have a family, this referral would be a “private” one. I wish you well with whatever you decide. Diane
