large prostate problems
Hello,
About two years ago i was diagnosed with a large prostate by my GP and later confirmed by a Urologist. I was given Tamsulosin to ease my problems passing urine. However in the last nine months i have twice been admitted to hospital with urine/kidney infections and have been very very ill. I have been told that i am not passing enough urine and it is building up in my bladder and becoming infected causing my illness so clearly the Tamsulosin is not effective enough. While in hospital last week i had a bladder scan which showed that my bladder contained 440ml of urine after going to the toilet and an ultrasound of my bladder which clearly showed the prostate pressing on the bladder.
My question is, would a change of medication to Finasteride or similar be more effective or does it sound as if surgery will be required?
Many thanks, Barry

Hi Barry
I think if you are having recurrent infections and retaining this much urine, a urologist is quite likely to be recommending surgery rather than adding finasteride. You need an urgent review to discuss this.

Re: large prostate problems
Agree you need a TURP or HoLEP procedure to sort this out definitively.
