Dear Angus,

thank you for your email. I strongly recommend that a diagnosis should be made first before one attempts to treats it.

A GP or a dermatologist should examine a lesion to make a diagnosis. I am afraid it is not enough to know whether the lesion is brown or not.

If the lesion is thought to be a melanoma it should be excised entirely, however if the lesion is not thought to be a melanoma, a diagnostic biopsy is usually sufficient ( a punch or an incisional biopsy depending on a nature of a lesion).
