Condoms have an expiry date for a number of reasons:
- Over time, they will lose their strength and flexibility, so will be more likely to break.
- If the condom has a spermicide on (to kill the sperm), this will also become more potent (less effective).
No matter what the expiry date, it's also important that you store them correctly. They should be kept cool, and also try not to fold or crease them, and you should make sure that the packet isn't damaged in any way. If you ever open a condom and it's dry or brittle, then you should not use it.
Condoms are the best way for preventing STIs and also a good way to prevent pregnancy, but they must be used properly. Get rid of the old ones!
