Re: sertraline
Hi,
Sertraline (Lustral) is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). SSRIs increase serotonin levels in the brain. Serotonin is a brain chemical linked to mood and is often known as the 'happy hormone' - hence SSRIs are used to treat depression and anxiety disorders.
According to the manufacturer's patient information leaflet http://www.medicines.org.uk/emc/medicine/2362 glaucoma can be a rare side effect of sertraline. Glaucoma is a condition that causes damage to the optic nerve at the back of your eye, which can affect your sight, and is caused by an increase in pressure within your eye. As you state that you are suffering from elevated eye pressure, I think this is a cause for concern.
I'm assuming you must have had your eye pressure checked by an optician? If so, is it being monitored? Also, is your GP aware of your eye problem and your raised blood pressure? If not I'd suggest you inform them as soon as possible. It sounds as though your GP may need to change your medication.
I hope this helps.
