Re: Eczema flares

i have been driving myself mad for the last week trying to work out why my baby's eczema had flared up all over his face and hands, thanks for sharing everyone as i now know what the probably cause is.

How do you find out if you are sensitive to the sun? MY baby was born in winter so has had no real sun exposure as yet

Re: Eczema flares

My son's skin flares as soon as he is out side. You can almost seeing happening before your eyes. When you take his t-shirt off you can see where it has been. His face, neck and hands are so bad. I thought it was pollen getting to the exposed skin, but the hospital say it is the sun. He has to keep covered in the sun, wear a hat that goes down the back of his neck and wear the sun cream they have prescribed( you can buy it too). They say there are some more special tests more detailed than the ones he had last summer, but as he has been in hospital and still a bit stressed out from it all they are not doing them for now. It would only help us understand the treatments would not change.

Re: Eczema flares

that must be awful, eczema is such a horrible thing, i had no idea how much it impacts on the whole family until my son had it. I guess i will have to get him out in the sun and see what happens.

Sudden flare?

When the sun broke out eczema sufferers flared as they did when the pollens started in spring etc. My son has broken out in a sudden flare this week. But the Sun is much calmer and we keep him out of it anyway as he has been diagnosed as allergic to it. The TV said grass pollens were going down. Does anyone have any idea of anything that may be causing the current flare, is any one else suffering a flare at the moment? It would be good to know if there is anything I've missed.

Re: Sudden flare?

Thanks, we control his sun and heat the best we can. He has had his full back covered in patch tests twice over which produced no results other than that he is now terrified of plasters.

Re: Sudden flare?

Patch tests on a 4 year old were not good. Especially when he also had to have UV exposure to the second lot. I will think twice if they suggest it for my daughter.

Re: Sudden flare?

Yes the second lot was horrible and totally terriefied him, even the nurses were upset to hear his sobs but only I could sit with him. Then it turned out through medical error, not of the dermatology team but the medical physics department, he was over exposed to UV for the test. We ended up visiting hospital everyday for a week. Luckily he was fine and suffered no known ill effects but it made me think twice about looking too hardfor an answer. Tests galore have proven nothing.

Re: Eczema Flares

Several factors are known to trigger or aggravate eczema, and should be avoided. Some of these factors are weather conditions and in your case, I must say air-borne allergens, also certain foods, skin irritants, and stress.
